Losing a loved one in a fatal car accident is one of the hardest experiences that any person may face. On top of that, Albuquerque car accidents tend to happen when we least expect them to occur. Although most people escape unscathed or with minor injuries, tragically, people can also be killed — especially when drinking was involved.
On the last day of 2013, a man from Upper Fruitland was arrested after FBI agents connected him with a fatal car crash. The accident took place on Navajo land on Dec. 23. According to witnesses, the man was trying to pass several cars just before his pickup truck crashed into another vehicle. A passenger in the pickup was severely injured. Although she was transported to the hospital, doctors were unable to save her, and she passed away the following day.
The FBI alleges that the driver’s blood alcohol level was .29 percent at the time of the accident. This is more than three times the legal limit of .8 percent in New Mexico. The man’s first court date was scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 2.
The facts relating to this accident are extremely sad to read, especially considering the loss of life and the allegations that the driver was inebriated at the time of the crash. Family members of the deceased woman may wish to pursue legal claims against the man who apparently caused the accident. As with other Albuquerque car accidents that involve drunk drivers, the high blood alcohol content of the driver in this case, in addition to his arrest by the FBI, may serve to strengthen any claims for reimbursement of financial damages sustained.
